East of England Professional Development Day for early years, music, and dance professionals

A Professional Development day for members of the early years workforce, music and dance professionals, will take place in Suffolk on THURSDAY 9 JULY 2009. This event will be delivered in partnership by Pro Corda, the UK's national youth chamber music organisation, and by Stepping into Music, which is the Dalcroze Society's acclaimed early years workshop and delivery programme.
'Dalcroze: Music and Movement for Under 5s' is an opportunity for participants to explore for themselves the proven benefits of this type of activity in early years settings. It is a direct learning and professional development opportunity which is suitable for all levels of musical experience, either as a means of developing music and movement provision for the first time, or of extending existing practice. Participants will take part in workshops, seminars, and discussion opportunities, which will provide them with practical and sustainable skills.
They will:
1) Be provided with a comprehensive introduction to music and movement in early years contexts
2) Learn about 'Dalcroze,' a educational technique which is highly regarded across the music education sector
3) Develop versatile new skills, which can be easily incorporated into their existing practice
4) Learn and develop new songs and activities using the voice and instruments
5) Understand how music and movement can be regularly incorporated into the life of an early years setting
6) Share ideas and experiences with colleagues from both the early years and performing arts sectors
Sessions will be led by members of the Pro Corda team, and by Margareta Burrell and Anita Strevens, the Creative Directors of Stepping into Music. Both are highly respected training providers and are qualified Dalcroze practitioners with wide-ranging experience in delivery to this age group, and to parents and supporters.
This event will take place at Leiston Abbey, which is Pro Corda's home in Suffolk. Parking is available and lunch / refreshments will be provided.
The cost is £50 per participant.
